What these music codes identify
An ISRC identifies a specific sound recording. A UPC identifies a release as a product, such as a single or album. Keeping them distinct and accurate helps everyone handling the release use the same identifiers.
This validator checks the 12-character ISRC pattern and normalises spaces, hyphens and letter case. ISRCs do not include a check digit, so a valid format does not prove a code was issued or belongs to your recording. For a 12-digit UPC-A, the tool recalculates its check digit and flags mismatches. It cannot check code ownership or look up registrations.

What is the difference between an ISRC and a UPC?
An ISRC identifies one recording. A UPC identifies a release product such as a single, EP or album. A release can have one UPC and several track ISRCs.
Does a valid ISRC result mean the code is registered?
No. ISRC has no check digit. This tool confirms the pattern only, not issuance, ownership or association with a recording.
What does a UPC check digit do?
The last digit is calculated from the first eleven using alternating weights. It helps catch some entry errors, but does not verify ownership or whether a barcode is registered.
Can I enter an EAN-13 barcode?
This tool accepts UPC-A with 12 digits. If your EAN-13 begins with zero and represents a UPC-A, you can remove the leading zero; other EAN-13 codes are not supported here.
Can I paste an ISRC with hyphens?
Yes. Spaces and hyphens are removed and letters are made uppercase before the ISRC format is checked.
Are my codes saved or looked up online?
