What the Metadata Editor does

Metadata is what turns a file on a hard drive into a track: the title a DJ software shows, the artist name a promo folder sorts by, the cover art a media player displays. This editor reads the existing tags out of your file, lets you correct or complete them, and writes them back.

Crucially, the audio stream is copied rather than re-encoded. Your MP3 is not decoded and re-compressed, your WAV is not resampled - only the tag chunks change, so the audio you deliver is bit-for-bit identical to the audio you loaded.

Each container stores tags differently: ID3v2 for MP3 and AIFF, Vorbis comments for FLAC and OGG, iTunes atoms for M4A, and RIFF INFO plus an ID3 chunk for WAV. The editor shows only the fields the loaded format can actually carry and explains any limits inline, so you never save a tag that silently disappears.

  • Edit title, artist, featuring, album, album artist, year and genre
  • Track and disc numbers, total tracks
  • Composer, copyright, comment and lyrics
  • Embed, replace or remove square cover art
  • Stream-copy writing - audio is never re-encoded
  • Per-format capability map so unsupported fields are hidden, not broken

How to use the Metadata Editor

  1. 1

    Drop your file

Existing tags and any embedded artwork are read and pre-filled, so you edit rather than start from scratch.

  2. 2

    Fill in the details

Work through Artwork, Track, Album and Credits. Fields your format cannot store are hidden with a short explanation.

  3. 3

    Save and download

The tagged file downloads immediately with the audio stream untouched.

Metadata Editor - frequently asked questions

How do I add cover art to an MP3?

Drop the MP3 in, open the Artwork section, add a square JPEG or PNG, then save. The image is embedded in the ID3v2 tag and shows up in players and DJ software.

Does editing tags reduce audio quality?

No. The audio stream is copied unchanged and only the metadata is rewritten, so the result is bit-for-bit identical audio.

Can I edit WAV file tags?

Yes. WAV tags are written as RIFF INFO plus an ID3 chunk, which also carries cover art. Be aware that Windows File Properties and some older players still won't display WAV tags.

What size should cover art be?

Square, and at least 1000×1000. Distributors typically require 3000×3000 JPEG or PNG for release artwork.

Which metadata fields do distributors need?

At minimum title, artist, album, release year and cover art. Composer and copyright lines matter for publishing, and correct spelling of the artist name matters everywhere.

Can I edit FLAC metadata online?

Yes. FLAC uses Vorbis comments and supports the full field set including embedded artwork, all editable here.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Reading and writing both happen in your browser, so unreleased tracks stay on your device.

Why are some fields hidden for my file?

Different containers support different tags. Rather than let you type a value that would be discarded on save, the editor hides fields the format cannot store and tells you why.
